GIST: Police killer sentenced to death by hanging

News reports have revealed that a young man accused of murdering a police officer, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

The criminal identified as Jackson Feutubobai, had reportedly received the death sentence, yesterday, Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
Feutubobai had reportedly been sentenced to death by hanging by a Bayelsa state High court over the murder of a police inspector,Joseph Ofozini in Lobia II community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on April 5th 2013. ‎
Jackson had been a member of the gang that had killed 11 police officers on the day the unfortunate incident had taken place.
Justice M.A. Ayemieye, who had presided over the case, had said that the sentence mandatory for a murder charge is death.
While commenting on the death sentence, the State prosecuting counsel, Arthur Andrew Seweniowor, revealed that failure to appeal within the next three months following the sentencing, the state governor, Seriake Dickson would sign Feutubobai's death warrant.
Efieseimokumo Bipeledei, Feutubobai's counsel, had reportedly appealed with the court to temper justice with mercy, urging the court to reduce the sentence to imprisonment, while adding that the accused person is allegedly a family man with five children dependent on him.
